What is Poraglass?

Poraglass is a super porous filter material made from the best quality quartz glass raw materials. The Poraglass tubes have a diameter of 16mm. To get the best result, they treat the tubes with a special heating process. The structure offers an optimal settlement area for micro-organisms. It contains a external settlement surface of 0.3 m2 per liter. Excellent to use for nitrification and denitrification (nitrate breakdown), which ensures clear, healthy water and stable water value in the aquarium.

In comparison, 1 liter of Poraglass is equal in filter surface to 1m³ Japanese mat!

How can I use Poraglass filtermedium?

Poraglass is perfect to use in different types of filter, like in a bioloog, external filter or trickle filter. So it is possible to use it under water as well as static filtration.
Because it is packed in mesh bags, it is easy to place or remove the bags in the filter. Also it is possible to take the poraglass out of the bags and put it lose in the filter.

A good pre-filter is a must for this type of filter media! That is why we always recommend to place filter wool or sponges in front of the Poraglass. So that the dirt particles collect in the filter wool and do not get between the filter media.

We also recommend rinsing the Poraglass before placing it in the filter.
