This laying cave calvus was originally specially developed for breeding cichlids from Guinea (Altolamprologus Calvus).
Because these caves are open at the back, they are also ideal as a hiding place for other aquarium inhabitants that like tight spaces, such as young L-numbers.

It is possible to use it. It is also possible to easily stack them. When standing, there must be a surface that you can easily press the cave into, otherwise it can easily fall over due to the ratio of floor space to height.

 

What is a breeding cave?

Breeding caves are used as breeding and shelter for plecos, catfish, shrimp and crayfish. They also provide shelter for eggs and babies.
Breeding caves can be made from different materials and can have different shapes and sizes depending on the animals’ shelter and breeding needs.

Material and production

All our breeding caves are handmade products, traditionally made from baked clay (1090 °C). Therefore, small differences in size and appearance are possible. Of course, care is taken to ensure that the external dimensions and inlet diameter match the indirect product.
Due to the nature of the material, the surface of the cave is invisibly rough, which improves the adhesive properties of most fish eggs without damaging the eggshells. This also minimizes the risk of the eggs being flushed out of the cave or thrown by the male.

The size may exist because it is a handmade product. So every item is unique!

 

It is also possible to order other sizes or colors of the calvus. Even special nesting caves, other than the standard dimensions, are possible.
