Description

Guava leaves are the leaves from the tropical Guava tree which occurs in the tropics and subtropics. It is an evergreen shrub or tree with spreading branches. It can grow up to 10 meters in height.
The fruit is edible and is widely used for jams, fruit juices but also soft drinks. At the end of the fruit is a whorl of sepals.

Guava leaves are the ideal addition for freshwater shrimp, other invertebrate aquarium inhabitants but also young fish. They have an anti-bacterial effect and prevent diseases in the aquarium. In addition, they support the molting, coloring and breeding of shrimps and lobsters.

How do I use the leaves?

The easiest is to put the leaves into the aquarium and don’t do much with them. When the Guava leaves are placed in the aquarium, a sticky biofilm will form on the leaves over time. This biofilm provides a food supply that is available 24/7.
You need 1 to 2 leaves per 30 liters of aquarium water.
You can take the leaves out when they start to dissolve but this is not particularly necessary. Shrimps and young fish will even more enjoy it as a plant food to graze on if you let the leaves in. The leaves of the Guava plant are tougher and decay less quickly than Catappa leaves.

Hint: If you douse the leaves with boiling water, the leaves will sink faster.
